Darlington
Operatic Society (DOS) is an amateur theatre company with an excellent
reputation.
We perform musicals and operettas twice yearly in the Spring and
Autumn engaging professional Directors and Choreographers from
all over the UK to produce what are deemed to be very professional
productions. The Society is run by a committee of twelve who are
responsible for the selection of shows, appointment of Directors,
MDs and Choreographers. The committee oversees auditions and the
selection of cast members. The financial aspect of each show is
also controlled by the committee as is fulfilling our Charity
status by supporting national and local charities.
We rehearse at the DARLINGTON
ARTS CENTRE, Vane Terrace, Darlington. Music rehearsals
are held on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm. Floor rehearsals are
very intense, working with professional Directors. A show is generally
‘blocked’ in 2 weeks (rehearsals every night plus
Sundays), obviously not all members are needed at all rehearsals.
Weekly rehearsals then take place with the Assistant Director
to learn what has been blocked, then the Director returns 2 weeks
before the show to fine tune and get us ready for the theatre.
We are fortunate to perform in the gorgeous CIVIC
THEATRE in Darlington. This beautiful 900 seater
Edwardian theatre has played host to famous touring shows such
as Blood Brothers, Mack and Mabel and The Rocky Horror Show as
well as producing the region’s annual professional Panto.
We are always
on the look-out for bright new talent. If you have a desire to
perform on stage with us, or join our backstage crew then take
a look at our forthcoming productions page to see what is coming
up and contact our Secretary, Barbara, on 01325 332435. |
